Broadcast Run: 1989 to 1992

The stories of a young elephant named Babar have delighted children all over the world since the character was created in 1931. The story began as Babar fled to the city after witnessing the slaughter of his mother. He grew up quickly in the city and learned all that he could, knowing that one day he would return to Elephantland. When he did finally return, the elder were so impressed that they decided to crown the young Babar King of Elephantland. The series weaved tales of excitement and adventure through vibrant animation. Canadaian actors whose voices appeared in the series included Gordon Pinsent as King Babar, Stephen Ouimette as Pompadour, Chris Wiggins as Cornelius and John Stocker as Basil. Originally produced with support from CBC in years 1 and 2 but not choosing to fund year 3, Global Television stepped in to keep the series alive.
