On Sunday, December 9th 2012, in an exclusive on-air message to Canadians during an episode of the U.S series The Amazing Race,  host Phil Keoghan announced on behalf of CTV that the network had ordered The Amazing Race Canada, a Canadian-produced, complementary version of the hit international series.

CTV said that the new series would provide a uniquely Canadian take on the original series, with competitors discovering the world within the borders of Canada. Though the series’ specific destinations wouldn’t be revealed until it aired, Canada’s  divergent topography and disparate locales “would add to the excitement and complexity of the show and its challenges”.

Amazing Race Canada  premiered on the network on Monday July 15th 2013 at 9 pm, hosted by Canada’s Olympic skeleton champion Jon Montgomery. Nine teams  competed for the half-million dollar grand prize.

The series concluded on Monday September 16th. Tim Hague Sr. and Tim Hague Jr., a father and son team from Winnipeg, emerged as the winners.  The other two finalist teams were sisters Vanessa Morgan and Celina Mziray, and brothers Cory and Jody Mitic.

Amazing Race Canada returned to CTV on July 8th 2014, again with Jon Montgomery as host.  Celebrity contestants taking part included National Ballet dancer Rex Harrington, and two members of Canada’s Women’s Hockey team, Natalie Spooner and Meaghan Mikkelson.

Season Three of The Amazing Race Canada launched at 9 pm on July 8 2015, with Jon Montgomery continuing as host, and concluded on September 23rd 2015, to be followed on June 28th 2016 by the start of season 4, which ended on September 13th.

On October 12th 2016, it was announced that auditions for Amazing Race Canada were now open for season 5, which would air in the summer of 2017.  The series started on July 4th, and ended on September 12th.

On October 12, 2017 Amazing Race Canada host Jon Montgomery announced that CTV had renewed the series for a sixth season. In a new twist, the series would be seeking courageous Canadians – teachers, first responders, parents, community leaders, mentors, athletes, and other everyday heroes with a story to tell – to join the Race for Season 6. The sixth season of the series would be scheduled in the summer of 2018.

On Tuesday July 3rd, 2018 the first-ever The Amazing Race Canada – Heroes Edition premiered on CTV, hosted by Olympic Gold Medallist Jon Montgomery, the multiple Canadian Screen Award winner .The Amazing Race Canada – Heroes Edition –  welcomed a new cast of racers to the Season 6 starting line.the series followed 10 teams as they pushed themselves out of their comfort zones in a non-stop, action-packed adventure with the hopes of being the last team standing. 

On September 11th, after three countries, seven provinces, 16 cities, and over 50,000 kilometres, first responders Courtney and Adam won Season 6 of The Amazing Race. Following an intense fight to the finish line in Alberta, Courtney and Adam were the first team to meet host Jon Montgomery at the final Pit Stop at the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course, each taking home the All-New 2018 Chevrolet Traverse Redline, a once in a lifetime trip for two around the world, $250,000 in cash, and the coveted title of The Amazing Race Canada champions. In this final leg, Courtney and Adam beat out fellow finalists Taylor and Courtney, and Dylan and Kwame.

In June 2019 CTV announced that Amazing Race Canada would return for season 7 omn Tiuedays at 9 pm starting on July 2nd.
