Alan Thicke Show, The

Network: CTV Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1980 to 1983

Broadcast Medium: Television

When one Alan closed, another opened. When the Alan Hamel Show left CTV’s daytime schedule in the fall of 1980, in came Alan Thicke to replace him with his own one-hour talk show. This talented Canadian actor, writer and songwriter had a very successful three-year run on CTV before being lured to do a similar show in the U.S. There, his syndicated Thicke of the Night failed to make a dent in the Johnny Carson numbers, and barely struggled through one season.

The Alan Thicke show occupied the 1:00 – 2:00pm time period on the network from
September 1980 through the fall of 1983, and segments were used briefly during the spring and early summer of 1981 to build a prime time half-hour series (and provide much-needed Canadian content) under the title Prime Cuts. Like the Hamel Show, Thicke’s series was produced at BCTV Vancouver, making access easier for US guests.
