Native Canadians Gil Cardinal, an acclaimed filmmaker, and movie star Tantoo Cardinal of “Dances with Wolves” fame hosted this moving contemporary Native series. The series celebrated Native traditions, and investigated topical issues such as the environmental crisis, Native self-government and profiles of successful Native individuals. In one episode, entitled “The Gift”, Joe and Reg Crowshoe, Canadian Indians from the Blackfoot Nation, travelled to China to meet with the Kazakhs who were nomadic herdsmen. The two aboriginal peoples performed a unique cultural exchange. Other episodes included a profile of Douglas Cardinal, architect of the Canadian Museum of Civilization; a wild horse roundup that showed how two Natives translated their traditional horse skills of their forefathers into a successful modern-day business; and a profile of Dr. Anne Anderson who worked for over two decades to preserve the Cree language.
