Ray St. Germain, a Winnipeg Métis country music entertainer, hosted this half-hour of country and western entertainment that included bluegrass, Native and Métis music as well as standard country fare. Showcasing local, national and international talent, Big Sky Country was taped at various locations throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan. St. Germain was a former teen idol, performing professionally since 1956 when he hit the road with country bands at the age of 14. He hosted more than 200 national network shows and was named Recording Artist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year at the 1979 Manitoba Country Awards. Big Sky Country earned a Can-Pro Gold Award in its first year of broadcast.
