This half-hour anthology series featured four programs by and about Canada’s native peoples. “A Canoe for the Making” by Duke Redbird featured the story of an Elder, played by Gordon Tootoosis, who convinced his reluctant grandson to take a wilderness tour. “Borders” was written by Thomas King and directed by Gil Cardinal, telling the story of a Blackfoot mother and son who took a stand on the Alberta/Montana international border. “Flat Mountain Taxtales” offered the Yukon as the setting for a delightfully funny yarn about an elderly couple, living on a trap line, who were hounded by the tax department. The last chapter, called “Hero,” featured a story about the big city that led two young friends from a reserve down different paths. Paul Kuster wrote the piece and Gary Farmer directed it.
