From 1973 to 1977, Télé-Métropole aired Les tannants, a late afternoon variety program, which would leave an indelible mark on the period. The hosts, Pierre Marcotte, Joël Denis and Shirley Théroux would put together a veritable suppertime happening. Contests, sketches and songs, in a no-frills, down-to-earth atmosphere, where the hosts had as much fun as the studio audience and TV audience at home.
Actors such as Roger Giguère were also a part of the heyday of this program. Daniel Hétu, who passed away in 2008, was the musical director. The most celebrated event on this show was a memorable contest of Elvis Presley impersonators.
