CBC Sports needed a weekly time slot to broadcast amateur sports, usually recorded in advance. Highlights for this year included the Canadian National Diving Championships from New Westminster, BC and water polo from the Edmonton Commonwealth Games. This show was renamed Sportsweekend after the first season, and the format was changed to include professional sports and live events.
