Network: CBC Television Network
Broadcast Run: 1968
Broadcast Medium: Television
Aired Sunday afternoons from January to March, 1968.
Produced in Vancouver, this half hour musical show featured the works of British composers W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, but with a difference. Rather than having the program condense an entire operetta into a half hour format, the writers had host Sam Payne playing a character who missed the Victorian Age, especially its music. He would wax nostalgic about the period and recall some of his favourite moments from the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. Viewers were treated to highlights, rather than full performances, of The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, The Yeoman of the Guard etc. Guests included Judith Forst, Harry Mossfield, Clifford Cox and Edward Greenhalgh.
