Aired weekly at various times, from January 1966 to September, 1970.
This 30 minute program about the environment debuted as a 13 week series, but was later renewed for several seasons before being renamed This Land in 1971.
The show’s host was John Foster, who became regarded as a pioneer of Canadian television by bringing issues about the Canadian landscape into people’s homes on a regular basis.
But the show was more than a look at agriculture and farming. Issues surrounding ecology, water and air pollution and conditions on Aboriginal Reserves filled out the mandate.
John Foster, and his wife Janet, later produced a highly successful syndicated series called To The Wild Country, using Canada’s provincial parks as a template for further programs about the great outdoors. The show’s original theme song was The Travellers’ hit from 1965.
Producers: Murray Creed [1966-67], Jim St. Marie [67-68], John Lackie [68-70]. Gerry Richardson and Jack Kellum.
