Canada’s Story

Network: CBC Television Network

Broadcast Run: 1966

Broadcast Medium: Television

Aired from September 5 to September 30, 1966.

This series of 20-one hour films aired weekday afternoons. The series was produced by the National Film Board of Canada and was a serious attempt to enlighten Canadians on their country’s history. The time frame: 1567 to 1967. Canada’s Story was part of an NFB project known collectively as The History Makers, which was a project that featured stories about Confederation, Explorers and the Struggle for Self-Government.

Canada’s Story took broader strokes, historically speaking, by dramatising the exploits of Henry Hudson, John Cabot and David Thompson, as well as  the politics of William Lyon Mackenzie, Joseph Howe and Louis-Joseph Papineau. The series also included the Battle of the Plains of Abraham and the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837.
