Originally owned by Netstar Communications, licensed in 1994 and launched in 1995, the Discovery Channel was acquired by CTV in 2000, along with other cable properties including TSN. Dealing entirely with fact rather than fiction, the channel’s content offered a wide range of programs on all kinds of matters scientific, from both domestic and international sources. The service was also available on HDTV.
In June 2010 CTV and Discovery Communications announced that effective August 2nd, the Discovery Channel would be rebranded as Discovery World HD, featuring unique programming in prime time.
Discovery World was re-branded as Discovery Velocity on February 12, 2015.
