On June 8, the CRTC approved the application by Acadian Communications Limited for a broadcasting licence for an English-language television programming undertaking at Chéticamp, on channel 28 with a transmitter power of 20 watts, to broadcast community programming in encrypted mode. The licence would expire August 31, 2002. Acadian was the licensee of a radiocommunication distribution undertaking at Chéticamp which used low-power television transmitters to distribute encrypted television signals received via satellite.
