This half-hour daytime strip series was a precursor of the popular 2002 prime time series Doctor Phil, in that it too addressed problems in human relationships, which were then commented on and solutions suggested by Dr. Don Dutton, a Social Psychology Ph.D. Each of the two problems per show was presented in improvisational form by actors, who worked on story outlines given them by Vancouver producer/director writer Shel Piercy, who culled the stories and situations for each episode from various sources.
Among the actors seen in these re-enactments were Ross Wilson, Tom Arntzen, Bill Nikolai and Curtis Blayne.
Secret Lives was produced in the Burnaby studios of CTV Vancouver affiliate BCTV. It played on the network Monday through Friday, 10:00 – 10:30am, from September 1989 through September 1991.
