CJBD-FM

On October 20, the CRTC approved an application by Dan McArthur for a broadcasting licence for an English-language FM radio programming undertaking at Destruction Bay (Alaska Highway, north of Destruction Bay), on the frequency 94.7 MHz, channel 234, with an effective radiated power of 3 watts, to broadcast information on weather and road conditions.

On the same date, applications were approved for transmitters at Beaver Creek, Carcross, Dawson City, Eagle Plains, Haines Junction, Ross River and Watson Lake. Each transmitter would operate on the frequency 105.5 MHz, channel 288, with an effective radiated power of 3 watts. All of the licences would expire August 31, 2002.

CJBD Destruction Bay signed on the air.

On October 2, Dan McArthur received CRTC approval for new low-power FM transmitters at Jakes Corner (Junction of Alaska Highway and Atlin Road) and Sourdough (Carcross Cut-Off, Junction of Alaska and South Klondike Highways). Each transmitter would operate on the frequency 93.3 MHz, channel 227VLP, with an effective radiated power of 3 watts.

When the licence was administratively renewed, it included transmitters at the following locations: Fort McPherson, Beaver Creek, Carcorss, Dawson City, Dempster Hyway/Eagle Plain, Destruction Bay (CJBD-FM), Haines Junction, Junction of the Dempster & Klondique Highways (CIKC-FM), Ross River, Steward Crossing and Watson Lake.

The licences were administratively renewed in January and the transmitter list was now down to CJBD-FM Destruction Bay, VF2358 Stewart Crossing, VF2359 Beaver Creek, VF2360 Carcross, and VF2412 Dawson City.

On May 23, the CRTC approved applications by Phil Wintemute, Telecommunications Manager, Department of Highways and Public Works, Government of Yukon, and his successors to the position for authority to acquire, from Dan McArthur, the assets of the radio programming undertakings VF 2359 Beaver Creek, VF 2360 Carcross, VF 2412 Dawson City (Ferry Terminal), CJBD-FM Destruction Bay, VF 2366 Sourdough and VF 2358 Stewart Crossing. The licences would expire on 31 August 2009.

Phil Wintemute, Telecommunications Manager, Department of Highways and Public Works, Government of Yukon, and his successors requested the revocation of the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertakings CJBD-FM Destruction Bay, VF2359 Beaver Creek and VF2412 Dawson City. The CRTC revoked the licences on December 22.

On November 21, the CRTC issued an exemption order for low-power radio stations that provided tourist information. It came into effect immediately. Licensees of radio stations that considered their operations to be eligible for exemption under the order could file a simple statement asking that the Commission revoke their licences. The licences for the remaining Yukon Department of Highways and Public Works transmitters were to expire August 31, 2016. Those transmitters were: VF2358 Stewart Crossing, VF2360 Carcross, and VF2355 Sourdough.
