1992
On September 4, the CRTC approved the application by Société de Communication Ikito Pikogan Ltée for a broadcasting licence for an Algonquian-, French- and English-language FM radio programming undertaking at Pikogan on the frequency 100.1 MHz, channel 261, with an effective radiated power of 50 watts. The licence would expire on August 31, 1999. The Commission noted that the applicant would broadcast 48 hours per week of programming, of which 42 hours would be local programming and 6 hours would originate from the Quebec CBC Northern Service; 33 hours and 20 minutes of local programming would be in Algonquian, 4 hours and 20 minutes in French and 4 hours and 20 minutes in English. It was a condition of licence that the applicant broadcast no more than an average of 4 minutes of advertising per hour per day, with a maximum of 6 minutes in any given hour, in accordance with the native radio policy for Type B stations.
1992-93
CKAG-FM signed on the air.
1999
On March 18, the CRTC administratively renewed the CKAG-FM licence to August 31, 2000.
2001
On June 15, the CRTC renewed the licence for CKAG-FM until August 31, 2008. In Public Notice CRTC 2001-70, the Commission introduced changes to conditions of licence for some native radio undertakings. As indicated in the notice, the Commission no longer imposed limits on the advertising broadcast by native radio stations and networks. However, it required that they broadcast a Canadian content level of at least 35% in popular (category 2) music. Consequently, it was a condition of licence that the licensee devote a minimum of 35% of all Category 2 musical selections broadcast, during each broadcast week, to Canadian selections.
2008
On August 29, the CRTC renewed the licence of CKAG-FM until August 31, 2012.
2009
On April 20, the CRTC approved the application by Société de communication Ikito Pikogan ltée to change the authorized contours of CKAG-FM Pikogan, by increasing the effective radiated power from 50 watts to 3,738 watts and by relocating the antenna (this relocation would increase the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from 15 to 38.43 metres). The licensee indicated that the change in CKAG-FM’s authorized contours and the relocation of the antenna would allow members of the Abitibiwinni First Nation living outside the station’s existing service area to receive its programming. The Commission noted that CKAG-FM was licensed as a low-power unprotected FM service. The proposed technical change would modify its operating class to one with protected status under the rules of the Department of Industry.
2012
On August 17, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence of CKAG-FM to August 31, 2013.
