2005

On February 17, Brian Cooper and Daniel McCarthy were awarded licences to operate a new FM station in Kincardine with transmitters in Goderich and Port Elgin. The new station would offer an adult classic hits format, targeting the 25-54 audience. The owners were instructed to seek an alternate frequency for the Port Elgin transmitter as 97.9 MHz was awarded to Bayshore Broadcasting for the conversion of CFPS-AM to the FM band. The Kincardine transmitter would operate on 95.5 MHz with effective radiated power of 5,660 watts. Antenna height would be 38.7 metres. The Goderich transmitter would use 99.7 MHz with ERP of 1,670 watts. Antenna height would be 56.8 metres. Port Elgin would have used 97.9 MHz with ERP of 1,620 watts.

2006

CIYN-FM “The Coast” signed on the air at 6:00 a.m., February 27. Studios and offices were located at 807 B Queen Street, Kincardine. The station was managed by Haliburton Broadcast Group.

2008

On March 25, CIYN-FM was authorized to operate a transmitter at Goderich, broadcasting on a frequency of 99.7 MHz with an effective radiated power of 750 watts. A Goderich transmitter had been approved in the station’s original 2005 application but the licensee did not meet the requirements of this decision with respect to the transmitter at Goderich, as the transmitter was not operational nor was a request for an extension of time to commence operation received by the CRTC within the required time frame. As a result, the authority granted in the 2005 decision for the operation of the transmitter became null and void. The licensee stated that due to a dispute with the owners of the tower, it was unable to commence the operation of the transmitter at Goderich in the required time frame.

2009

On May 13 the CRTC approved the application by My Broadcasting Corp. on behalf of 2079966 Ontario Ltd., for authority to effect a change in effective control of 2079966 Ontario Ltd. The numbered company was owned by Brian Cooper (35.05% voting interest), Daniel McCarthy (35.05%) and The Haliburton Broadcasting Group Inc. (29.9%). The proposed transaction would see the transfer of all of the issued and outstanding shares of the numbered company to MBC, a corporation controlled jointly by Jon Pole and Andrew Dickson. It was expected the numbered company would later be amalgamated with MBC. In the course of this transaction, Blackburn Radio Inc., a corporation ultimately controlled by Richard Costley-White, would exercise its option to acquire 29.9% of the voting shares of MBC. This step would not affect the control of MBC. The Commission denied the MBC application to amend the licence for CIYN-FM in order to operate a transmitter in Port Elgin on 90.9 MHz with effective radiated power of 3,100 watts.

2010

CIYN 95.5 (and CIYN-1 99.7 Goderich) changed its name January 4 from The Coast to MY FM. The format remained Classic Hits.

On March 12, the CRTC approved the application by My Broadcasting Corporation to amend the broadcasting licence for CIYN-FM in order to operate a transmitter in Port Elgin at 90.9 MHz (channel 215A) with an effective radiated power of 3,100 watts (non-directional antenna with an effective height of the antenna above average terrain of 47.3 metres). MBC submitted that the proposed transmitter was needed for CIYN-FM to adequately serve the people of Port Elgin. In Broadcasting Decision 2005-68, the Commission approved the addition of transmitters of CIYN-FM in Port Elgin and Goderich. Because the licensee did not implement the transmitters within the required timeframe and did not request an extension of time to commence operation, the authority for the transmitters granted in that decision became null and void on 17 February 2007. Subsequently, in Broadcasting Decision 2008-68, the Commission approved the addition of a transmitter of CIYN-FM in Goderich. In Broadcasting Decision 2009-269, the Commission approved an application by MBC, on behalf of 2079966 Ontario Limited, to effect a change in the effective control of 2079966, the licensee of CIYN-FM, but denied the addition of a transmitter in Port Elgin. The Commission determined that, if it were to approve the proposed transmitter at that time, the profit to be realized from its sale would be significant, particularly because the vendor had not fulfilled the original requirements set out in Broadcasting Decision 2005-68 to establish a transmitter in Port Elgin and had not made any financial investment in the undertaking. The Commission noted that, under the Share Purchase Agreement of that transaction, MBC could file another application for the addition of a transmitter in Port Elgin nine months from the date of Broadcasting Decision 2009-269. In that case, MBC would not be required to pay extra compensation to 2079966 for the additional transmitter in Port Elgin. The present application included an agreement between MBC and 2079966 stating there would be no further payment required for the addition of a transmitter in Port Elgin. Approval of this application will have no impact on the value of the ownership transaction approved in Broadcasting Decision 2009-269.

Rob Mise was named general manager / general sales manager for MY FM’s Kincardine Group of stations.

2011

The CRTC approved the change to the ownership of My Broadcasting Corporation, for estate planning purposes, through the transfer of Andrew Dickson and Jon Pole’s voting interest in My Broadcasting (35.05% each) to their respective family trusts. The transaction did not affect the effective control of the licensee, which continued to be exercised jointly by Andrew Dickson and Jon Pole. My Broadcasting was the licensee of various radio programming undertakings in Ontario.

On August 31, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CIYN-FM and its transmitter CIYN-FM-1 Goderich and its transmitter serving Port Elgin, as approved in CIYN-FM Kincardine – New transmitter in Port Elgin, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2010-145, March 12, 2010. The new licence would expire March 31, 2012.

2012

On March 20, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CIYN-FM Kincardine and its transmitters CIYN-FM-1 Goderich and that approved in CIYN-FM Kincardine – New transmitter in Port Elgin, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2010-145, to August 31, 2012. On August 28, the licence was administratively renewed to December 31, 2012. On December 21, the CRTC renewed the licence of to August 31, 2017.
