2005
On June 23, Newcap Inc. was given approval to operate a new FM station in Ottawa. It would have an Alternative Rock format, targeted to youth and young adults. The station would operate on 88.5 MHz with an effective radiated power of 5,200 watts.
Newcap was authorized on October 5 to decrease effective radiated power from 5,200 to 2,300 watts.
CILV-FM began test broadcasts on November 30.
On December 26, “Live 88.5” signed on the air at 12 noon. Studios and offices were located at 1500 Merivale Road, also home to sister station CIHT-FM.
2007
CIHT-FM and CILV-FM moved to new studios and offices on November 26. The new address was 6 Antares Drive, Phase 1 – Unit 100, Ottawa.
2010
Ian Balfour became Retail Sales Manager at Hot 89.9 FM/LiVE 88.5. He had been Assistant General Manager at the Steele Communications’ Western Newfoundland and Labrador stations.
Blair Rhodes, the Program Director at K-Rock Charlottetown left the station May 17 to join LiVE 88.5 Ottawa as Promotions Director.
2011
On August 31, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CILV-FM until March 31, 2012.
Jessica Murphy left Quinte Broadcasting’s promotions team for a promotions position at Newcap’s Hot 89.9 and Live 88.5 in Ottawa.
2012
On March 20, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CILV-FM to August 31, 2012. On August 28, the licence was renewed to December 31, 2012.
On December 20, the CRTC renewed the licence of CILV-FM to August 31, 2017. This short-term renewal would allow for an earlier review of the licensee’s compliance with its conditions of licence and with the Radio Regulations, 1986.
2015
On May 27, the CRTC approved CILV-FM’s application to change its channel class from B to C1, increase maximum ERP from 12,000 to 90,000 watts (average ERP from 2,300 to 37,000 watts) and decrease EHAAT from 254.6 to 130.7 metres.
2016
CILV increased effective radiated power in January.
2018
On October 23, the CRTC approved an application by Newfoundland Capital Corporation Limited, on behalf of Newcap Inc. and its licensed broadcasting subsidiaries, for authorization to effect a change in the ownership and effective control of various radio and television broadcasting undertakings in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador, so that effective control of the undertakings would be exercised by Eric Boyko (Stingray Digital Group Inc.). Stingray took ownership of the stations just a few days later.
