2010
On June 17, the CRTC approved an application by GIMA Radio (Anong Migwans Beam) for a broadcasting licence to operate an English-and Aboriginal-language, low-power, Type B Native FM radio station in M’Chigeeng. The station would operate on 88.9 MHz (channel 205LP) with an effective radiated power of 50 watts (non-directional antenna with an effective height of antenna above average terrain of 15.2 metres). The station would broadcast 24 hours of programming each broadcast week and it would offer a format completely devoted to the recovery and sustainment of the Ojibwe language. Programming would include educational and music programs. The station would broadcast musical selections performed in Ojibwe and music by local and visiting drum groups. The licence would expire August 31, 2016.
CHYF-FM began on-air testing on August 23 and signed on the air a short time later.
2017
On March 21, the CRTC approved the application by Gimaa Giigidoowin Communications for authority to acquire from Anong Migwans Beam the assets of CHYF-FM. In 2015, it became apparent to the Commission that Anong had sold the assets of the undertaking without obtaining the Commission’s prior approval. Anong was instructed to file an application regarding the acquisition of assets of CHYF-FM and the issuance of a new licence to Gimaa.
