1998
On April 21, Central Island Broadcasting Ltd. was given approval to open an FM station in Courtenay on 97.3 MHz with an effective average radiated power of 4,700 watts (11,600 watts peak). The new station would serve the Comox-Strathcona regional district. Central Island owned CKEG/CKWV Nanaimo and CKCI in Parksville.
2000
CKLR-FM 97.3 The Eagle signed on with “The Island’s Best Music Mix”. The station had studios in both Courtenay and Campbell River.
2005
On January 19 Central Island Broadcasting Ltd. announced it had changed its corporate name to Island Radio Ltd. to more closely reflect the company’s geographic presence due to expansion north and west from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.
On November 1, it was announced in a joint press release that Island Radio Ltd. had agreed to sell its six Vancouver Island radio stations (and related assets) to the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group pending approval by the CRTC.
2006
On June 27, the Commission approved application by Jim Pattison Broadcast Group Ltd. (the general partner) and Jim Pattison Industries Ltd. (the limited partner), carrying on business as Jim Pattison Broadcast Group Limited Partnership, to acquire the assets of CHWF-FM and CKWV-FM Nanaimo, CIBH-FM and CHPQ-FM Parksville, CKLR-FM Courtenay and CJAV-FM Port Alberni, from Island Radio Ltd. The applicant stated that the value of the transaction was $12.5 million.
2010
News Director Marc Mulvaney left Vista Radio Courtenay.
2011
On August 31, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CKLR-FM until March 31, 2012.
2012
On March 20, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CKLR-FM to August 31, 2012.
News director Randy Kilburn left Vista Radio Courtenay on January 23. He moved on to the Workers Compensation Board in Edmonton.
On August 28, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence of CKLR-FM to December 31, 2012. On December 21, the licence was renewed to August 31, 2019.
