2001
On February 2, the CRTC approved the application by Cathe Wagg for a new low-power English-language FM radio station at Campbell River. Wagg proposed a tourist information service that would provide historical information on Campbell River; listings of parks, camp sites and events; information on tourist attractions, the B.C. ferry service, boating and safety; as well as phone listings for information on traffic and weather. Programming would consist of one hour of pre-recorded messages repeated continuously over a 24-hour period. The service would operate on a year-round basis. The licence would expire 31 August 2007. The new station would operate on the frequency 93.1 MHz, channel 226LP, with an effective radiated power of 50 watts.
CFIY-FM signed on the air.
On August 17, the Commission approved CFIY’s application to decrease the effective radiated power from 50 watts to 27 watts and relocate its transmitter to a site 0.8 km south-east of the existing location.
2013
On November 21, the CRTC issued an exemption order for low-power radio stations that provided tourist information. It came into effect immediately. Licensees of radio stations that considered their operations to be eligible for exemption under the order could file a simple statement asking that the Commission revoke their licences. CFIY-FM’s application was to expire on August 31, 2014.

Effective September 1st 2019, we will only be adding new material to these station histories in exceptional circumstances. Our intent to chronicle the early days of these radio and television stations has been achieved, and many new sources and technologies, from the CRTC website to Wikipedia, and others, are now regularly providing new information in these areas.
