Stornoway Communications Ltd., received a licence from the CRTC in November 2000 for a cable specialty channel to be called The Pet Network, to be dedicated to pets and ‘working animals’. By 2003, the channel had not begun broadcasting, and Stornoway received an extension to November 2004 to get the service up and running. With Rogers agreeing to be the first cable operator to carry the service, it finally launched in the Fall of 2004, with the smart slogan “Come, Sit, Stay”, and with a schedule that included a wide range of programs about all kinds of four- and two-legged friends, both furred and feathered. On May 2, 2016, The Pet Network ceased broadcasting.
