Screen Gems Canada were one of the most successful U.S. based production companies who took existing program formats and made deals to produce Canadian versions for stations and networks north of the border. CTV picked up several of these series, of which Doctor’s Diary was one. Others included People In Conflict and Magistrate’s Court.
This series was produced in Montreal, the home city of host Dr. McNally, who in each program saw several ‘patients’ and dispensed some basic wisdom – accompanied by the usual disclaimers, and admonitions to his ‘patients’ to be sure to consult their own medical advisers.
The series was launched on CTV as a daytime strip, Monday to Friday at 3:30pm in the fall of 1968. It was produced at CFCF-TV Montreal, and ran for two years.
