Soon after this new series made a successful debut on the Discovery Channel in the fall of 2002, it became a regular fixture in the CTV daytime schedule.

Daily Planet, The
Jay Ingram & Natasha Stilwell

Advertised as a magazine show “that brings you the world like you’ve never seen it before”, and aiming to “demystify the mysteries of science, and bridge the gap between the lab and your living room”, the series was hosted by author and broadcaster Jay Ingram (of the Discovery Channel’s @discovery.ca, from which Daily Planet evolved, and CBC’s Quirks and Quarks) and science producer and presenter Natasha Stillwell.

Regular segments included ‘Starstruck” a weekly space column, and a ‘techie” segment in which Gadget Grrl Shannon Bentley tried out science’s latest techno offerings like a martini maker and a ‘new and improved’ pillow.

Daily Planet made its debut on CTV on Saturdays, 10:00 – 11:00am, on October 5th 2002.  On Monday December 16th 2002, it began also airing daily from 10:00 to 11:00am Monday through Friday, and on February 10th 2003 it moved to 10:30 – 11:00am daily in a half-hour format. It returned for the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons at 10:30am weekdays and 10:00am Saturdays, and in June 2005 it was announced as returning for the 2005-2006 season in those same time periods.
