After finishing the final episode of the famed CTV comedy Corner Gas, Gemini-Award winning actor Fred Ewanuik began rehearsals in the lead role of Dan for Mayor, a new half-hour CTV sitcom which debuted on March 1st 2010.
Dan had had the same friends since grade school, his most prized possession was a vintage Ms. Pac-Man game, and his last serious relationship was with a girl who was now engaged to someone else. His life seemed to be firmly on the path to more of the same… until a chance comment suddenly put him in the running for mayor of Wessex. Dan for Mayor charted Dan’s voyage of self-discovery as he, along with best friend Jeff and ex-girlfriend Claire, stumbled their way towards election night.
Starring alongside the Gemini Award-winning Ewanuick was Mary Ashton as Dan’s newly engaged ex-girlfriend Claire, and Paul Bates as Jeff, Dan’s best friend who suddenly found himself made manager of Dan’s campaign for the Mayoralty. Ben Ayres played Claire’s fiancé, Mike.
The series was produced by Sad Glasses and QVF Inc., in association with CTV and the Comedy Network. The creators and Executive Producers, all formerly associated with Corner Gas, were Mark Farrell, Kevin Mather and Paul White. The series was produced by Sue Murdoch and directed by Ron Murphy.
After a brief late spring 2010 hiatus, Dan for Mayor returned to the CTV schedule in repeats on Mondays at 8:30pm, beginning on June 7th. A new series went into production in the fall of 2010, for potential broadcast in mid-season 2011.
On May 9th 2011, CTV announced that Dan for Mayor would return to the schedule on Sunday June 5th at 7.30 pm. In September, the media reported that the series was cancelled.
On May 31st 2012, CTV announced that repeats of Dan for Mayor would be stripped at 7:00 pm Monday through Friday on the CTV Two network schedule.
