ASN was owned by Bell Media, with its studios located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and was part of Bell Media’s A Network, though uniquely with no over-the-air signal.
The satellite to cable channel had launched as the Atlantic Satellite Network (ASN) in 1983, and carried programming from CHUM’s Citytv and A-Channel . Some CTV programs were added beginning in the early 2000s.
CTV acquired CHUM in 2007, and had to sell off its CITY_TV stations. CTVglobemedia merged the Atlantic Satellite Network with the relaunched A system on August 11, 2008. In June 2011, BellMedia, now 100% owners of CTV, announced that effective with the start of the Fall Season, A channel would be rebranded as CTV Two.
