Described by CTV as a ‘roving weekend news magazine and lifestyle show’, Good Morning Canada was a new entry to the CTV weekend schedule in September 2000. The ‘roving’ part involved the series originating from cities other than Toronto, and was produced in the studios of CTV affiliates in Kitchener, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver.
Each originating station provided hosts already familiar to local television viewers; respectively, Tom Knowlton, Darren MacFadyen, Janet Stewart and Coleen Christie fronted the show . While the series includes national news and feature material, the unique nature of each originating city was been strongly emphasized through studio and location segments.
The series played on Saturdays at 8:00am, and on Sundays at 7:00am through 2009.
