Quebec’s adaptation of the celebrated American quiz show, Jeopardy, was broadcast on Télé-Métropole from September 1991 to May 1993. The contestants were required to perform some funny intellectual gymnastics. They had to formulate the question (as an answer) to the proposed answer (as a question) given by the host Réal Giguère.
Airing five days a week, Jeopardy attracted some 800,000 viewers daily. The contestants who had to be well versed in politics, sports, literature, the movies and science, could win up to $15,000 in a single week. Unfortunately, in 1993, negotiations with the Merv Griffin Companies to renew the broadcast rights in the Province of Quebec failed, and Jeopardy had to leave the air.
