Nine years after Germaine Guèvremont’s novel of the same name was published, “Le Survenant” was produced for television. The story took place at the turn of the century, in the small village of Chenal-du-Moine where a stranger came to settle down.
Radio-Canada broadcast 138 episodes of the series Le Survenant, beginning on November 30th 1954 and continuing to 1960. A year after the first episode of La famille Plouffe, the character of Le Survenant, played by Jean Coutu, quickly became one of the most popular characters on Quebec television. Germaine Guèvremont wrote the screenplay of this program, which was directed by Denys Gagnon, Maurice Leroux and Jo Martin.
