This talented Cape Breton singer first showed up in the CTV schedule in May 1975 with his self-titled show, which formed the third in the Trilogy series of variety half-hours that CTV played on Sundays at 6:30pm in the 1974-75 season – the others being Oom Pah Pah and Sing a Song (q.v.). It turned out to be the only one of the three shows to draw sufficient audiences to warrant a renewal, and the John Allan Cameron Show was a part of the CTV 1975-76 schedule, this time on Tuesdays at 8:30pm.
Produced at CFCF-TV in Montreal, not even an excellent line-up of guests, added to Cameron’s own multiple talents as a singer/guitarist, were enough to earn the series a renewal when the 1976-77 season came around – though John did have his own half-hour series on CBC in 1979 as a summer replacement.
