2005
On February 24, Golden West Broadcasting Ltd. was given approval to operate a low power commercial FM station at Kindersley, operating on a frequency of 104.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 50 watts. Antenna height would be 35 metres. The antenna would be located on the CFYM-AM tower. The station would offer a contemporary country format targeted to a younger audience than that being served by sister station CFYM which had an oldies format.
CKVX-FM signed on the air later in the year. It was known as Mix 104.9, playing the best songs, best variety. Studios and offices were located with CFYM-AM at 303-12th Avenue East in Kindersley.
2011
On August 31, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CKVX-FM until March 31, 2012.
2012
On March 20, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CKVX-FM to August 31, 2012. On August 28, the licence was administratively renewed to December 31, 2012. On December 21, the licence was renewed to August 31, 2019.
2015
On June 11, the CRTC approved Golden West’s application to increase the effective radiated power of CKVX from 50 to 100,000 watts, increase the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 27 to 341.2 metres, and move the transmitter from Kindersley to Stranraer. The station’s class would change from low-power unprotected to protected Class C.
2016
In August, Mix 104.9 completed its power boost from 50 watts to 100,000 watts. The station now served a wider swath of west-central Saskatchewan.
On September 20 at 7:00 a.m., CKVX relaunched as Country 104.9 FM and was now known as West Central Saskatchewan’s Country Music Superstation.
