CKOD-FM

CFLV signed on the air November 10. It operated on a frequency of 1370 kHz with a power of 1,000 watts. CFLV was owned and operated by Radio Valleyfield Ltee. The station wa independent with no network affiliation.

Adrien Cholette was president of the company and Jean-Claude Lefebvre was CFLV’s manager. 

Radio Valleyfield Ltee was given approval to increase the power of CFLV. Power at this time was 1,000 watts on 1370 kHz. The new parameters would have CFLV operating with 10,000 watts day and 5,000 watts at night (DA-1). A later release said that the new power would be 5,000 watts day and night – this may have been an error though. The increase in power was needed because industrial development in the area had reduced the station’s signal.

J.C. Lefebvre was station manager. 

On January 31, the transfer of 50% of Radio Valleyfield Ltd. from Adrien Cholette & Arthur Vinet to SAGIF Inc. (with Cholette and Vinet holding one common share to qualify as directors) was approved.

By this time, CFLV was operating with 10,000 watts day and 5,000 watts night.

Late in the year, CFLV changed its call sign to CKOD. Now known as “KOD 137”, the station played Canadian artists exclusively, 24 hours a day. 

Radio Valleyfield Ltée sold CKOD to Radio Express Inc. 

On December 1, Radio Express received approval to move CKOD 1370 to the FM band. The station would broadcast on a frequency of 102.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 3,000 watts.

On June 6, CKOD made the move from AM to FM.

Radio Express Inc. was given approval to change CKOD’s frequency from 102.9 to 103.1 MHz. Power would remain 3,000 watts.

The change in the effective control of Radio Express inc. was approved – from a control exercised jointly by Robert Brunet and Michel Gadoua to a legal control exercised by Robert Brunet through his acquisition of Mr. Gadoua’s shares (50%) in Radio Express inc. 

On November 30, the CRTC renewed CKOD’s licence to August 31, 2017.

On November 24, the CRTC approved an application by 9238476 Canada Inc. (Torres Media) for authority to acquire from Radio Express Inc. the assets of the French-language commercial radio station CKOD-FM. Effective control of Torres Media was exercised by Ed Torres. Radio Express was wholly owned and controlled by Robert Brunet. In a decision letter dated May 8, 2015, the Commission approved an application by Torres Media for authority to exercise interim management of CKOD-FM.

It was announced that when CKOD returned to the air it would become 103.1 MAX (Max 103). This change took place just a week after Torres Media received CRTC approval to acquire the station. The new owner also moved CKOD from its old basement location in a rundown building to a new studio location with a whack of new equipment.

After being dark since January of this year, CKOD returned to the air in December as Hot Adult Contemporary MAX FM. It had been Adult Contemporary FM 103.
