1997
On July 4, Jean-Pierre Coallier’s third attempt to launch a new FM station in Montréal was approved. Mr. Coallier, owner of CIME-FM Sainte-Adèle and CIEL-FM, was granted a licence for a classical music station, operating on 99.5 MHz with an effective radiated power of 8,700 watts. Coallier’s company to be incorporated, became known as Radio-Classique Montréal inc.
1998
CJPX Radio-Classique signed on the air on June 25.
2010
On November 9, the CRTC renewed CJPX’s licence to August 31, 2014. This short-term renewal would enable the Commission to review, at an earlier date, the licensee’s compliance with the Radio Regulations, 1986 and its conditions of licence.
2015
On August 26, the CRTC approved, with certain changes to the value of the transaction and the tangible benefits package, an application by Média ClassiQ inc. for authority to acquire from Radio-Classique Montréal inc. and Radio-Classique Québec inc. the assets of the French-language specialty commercial radio programming undertakings CJPX-FM Montréal and CJSQ-FM Québec. Média ClassiQ was wholly owned by Marignan inc., a corporation controlled by Gregory Charles. The Commission also approved an application by Média ClassiQ to amend CJSQ-FM’s conditions of licence to operate it under the same conditions as CJPX-FM. Harmonizing the conditions of licence for the two stations would allow for synergies and help rectify CJSQ-FM’s financial situation.
2020
On April 3, the CRTC approved an application by Leclerc Communication inc. for authority to acquire from Média ClassiQ inc. the assets of the French-language commercial specialty radio station CJPX-FM. Jacques Leclerc held 99.7% of the voting rights for Leclerc and exercised the effective control of the broadcasting undertakings. Média ClassiQ was wholly owned by Groupe Radio Greg inc. Média ClassiQ was controlled by Gregory Charles. The commission also approved Leclerc’s application to amend CJPX-FM’s conditions of licence to change the station’s specialty format to a mainstream music format (Adult Album Alternative – Triple A and Adult Contemporary). Leclerc committed to devote more than 25% of the station’s French-language vocal music musical selection rotations to emerging French-language artists.
Under new owners, Leclerc Communications, CJPX dropped classical music and became Modern AC/Triple A “WKND 99.5” on June 17.
