CJIV-FM

On February 7, the CRTC approved an application by Way of Life Broadcasting for a low-power Christian music FM station in Dryden. It would broadcast on a frequency of  97.3 MHz with an effective radiated power of 50 watts. The applicant indicated that the new station would be a not-for-profit operation, with revenues generated through listener donations. Way of Life proposed to offer religious spoken word programming, and stated that it would make available at least 6.25% of each broadcast day for use by members of other faiths in the community.  
CJIV “Sonshine 97.3 FM” signed on the air, March 17. Studios and offices were on Highway 17 West. CJIV operated with a Christian music format.

On May 28, the CRTC renewed the broadcasting licence for the low-power, English-language commercial specialty radio station CJIV-FM Dryden from 1 June 2010 to 31 August 2011. This short-term licence renewal would enable the Commission to review, at an earlier date, the licensee’s compliance with the Radio Regulations, 1986 and its conditions of licence, as well as with its provision of local programming.

On August 31, the CRTC renewed the licence of the English-language, low-power commercial specialty radio station CJIV-FM Dryden to August 31, 2013. This short-term renewal would allow for an earlier review of the licensee’s compliance with the Radio Regulations, 1986, as well as with its commitment to the provision of local programming.

Way of Life Broadcasting requested the revocation of its broadcasting licence for the English-language low-power commercial specialty radio programming undertaking CJIV-FM Dryden, as of September 1, 2013. The licensee stated that it did not have the listenership to justify operating the station. Consequently, it would cease operations by no later than August 31, 2013, the expiry date for the licence. (Approved February 20, 2013) Jake Letkeman, the manager, said the station had an annual budget of about $6,000.

CJIV left the air August 31 due the lack of support. Way of Life Broadcasting had already requested and was granted a revokation of licence earlier in the year.
