1999
On July 16, Conestoga College Communications Corp. was awarded a licence for a new campus-instructional FM station at Kitchener/Paris. The station would operate on 88.3 MHz, with an effective radiated power of 4,000 watts.
2000
CJIQ began on-air testing in November.
2001
CJIQ officially launched on January 8 at 6:00 a.m., and was known as “The Condor”. The station’s antenna was on the Global Television tower at Paris, and offered a Hot Adult Contemporary / Contemporary Hits music format. Studios and offices were located at Conestoga College. The students of the college’s Broadcasting and Journalism programs operated CJIQ.
2008
On August 12 the CRTC renewed CJIQ-FM’s licence until August 31, 2015. The licensee has proposed to increase its third-language programming from 2 hours per week (directed to 2 ethnic groups in 2 different languages) to 8 hours per week (directed to 3 ethnic groups in 3 different languages). This is consistent with the significant role played by campus stations in serving the needs of the minority communities within their service areas. The Commission reminds the licensee that it is required to meet the regulatory minimum with respect to the percentage of musical selections drawn from category 2 (Popular Music) that must be Canadian (35%).
2014
On April 25, the CRTC approved the application by CJIQ to decrease average ERP from 4,000 to 3,386 watts (max 10,600 to 8,220 watts), changing the antenna’s polarization to circular and by increasing EHAAT.
