At licence renewal time, it was noted that most of CBE-FM’s programming originated with the Radio Two network. The station also broadcast local arts billboard information.
2002
On December 11, the CBC was granted transitional digital radio undertaking licences for CBE and CBE-FM. The CBC would co-site and share the existing DRB facilities at the site of CHUM’s FM stations at Windsor, using the EUREKA-147 DAB system in the frequency band 1452 MHz-1492 MHz (L-Band). The transmitter would operate on frequency 1484.208 MHz (channel 19) with an effective isotropic radiated power of 4,369 watts.
2008
On May 9, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation received approval to operate nested FM rebroadcasting transmitters at Windsor for CBE and CBEF. The transmitter for CBE would operate at 102.3 MHz with an average effective radiated power of 690 watts. The CBC stated that a significant number of residents in the Windsor region who describe themselves as CBC listeners indicate trouble receiving signals in downtown Windsor.
2009
The CRTC renewed the licence for CBE-FM and CBE-DR-1.
2010
On August 9, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence of CBE-DR-1, CBE-FM to August 31, 2011.
2011
In 2010, the CBC had the licenses for its Montreal digital radio transmitters revoked. On January 21, 2011, the CRTC revoked the licenses for the rest of the CBC’s digital radio transmitters across the country – at the Corporation’s request. The revocations included CBE-DR-1 and CBE-DR-2 in Windsor. There had been a total lack of interest in digital radio by all parties involved.
2013
On February 22, the CRTC administratively renewed the licences for CBE-FM Windsor and its transmitter to August 31, 2013.
On May 28, the CRTC renewed the licence of CBE-FM Windsor for a five year term, to August 31, 2018. The Commission considered that it was appropriate to impose conditions of licence on Radio 2 that: permit the broadcast of a maximum of four minutes of national paid advertising, as currently defined by the Commission, in any clock hour; and limit the number of times that programming can be interrupted for advertising to no more than twice per clock hour. The broadcast of advertising by Radio 2 was for a three-year trial period from September 1, 2013 until August 31, 2016.
On December 5, the CRTC gave approval to the CBC to introduce advertising on the Radio 2 and Espace Musique networks. Advertising would be limited to four minutes every hour. The CBC would need to seek permission to continue airing commercials on the two networks after three years.
2016
On August 31, the CRTC denied the CBC’s application to continue commercial advertising on Radio 2 and ICI Musique beyond the initial three-year licence amendment. The CRTC found that CBC had failed to maintain satisfactory investment in radio and failed to meet ad revenue projections.
2017
Radio 2 became CBC Music.
