On August 8, Red River College Radio was awarded a licence for a new instructional campus FM radio station at Winnipeg. The station would operate at 92.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 201 watts. Red River had originally applied for 90.5 MHz but the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. intervened due to concerns about interference to certain CBC stations.

CKIC-FM (“92.9 Kick-FM…A Rock ‘n’ Soul Adventure!) signed on the air. Studios and offices were at W302, 160 Princess Street. The transmitter was expected to operate from the Penthouse Tower, C Building, Red River College, 2055 Notre Dame Avenue with a height of 43.1 metres.
2004
On June 4, CKIC was authorized to increase effective radiated power from 201 to 250 watts.
2009
On June 9 the CRTC renewed CKIC-FM’s licence to August 31, 2011.
2011
On August 31, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CKIC-FM to December 31, 2011.
2012
CKIC-FM (92.9 KICK FM) left the air at 4:00 p.m. on July 4. Programming was discontinued following a CRTC decision to no longer license stations that existed purely for educational reasons. Red River College would continue to train students with broadcasts streamed on-line. The Board of Directors of Cre-Comm Radio Inc., operator of CKIC-FM stated that 92.9 KICK FM went on-air almost ten years ago with a mandate to provide a radio broadcast training forum for students that resembled, as near as possible, the operation of a commercial radio station. Red River College provided the transmitter and facilities as well as start-up funding, with the goal that the radio station become self sustaining over a period of time. Despite never being able to achieve this, the college continued to fund the station. The board thanked station manager Rick Baverstock for his dedication, support and contribution to the station from its sign-on in December of 2003.
CreComm Radio Inc. requested the revocation of the licence for the FM campus instructional radio programming undertaking CKIC-FM. The licensee stated that it had ceased operation on 4 July 2012. Given the licensee’s request and pursuant to sections 9(1)(e) and 24(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission revoked the broadcasting licence issued to CreComm Radio Inc. for CKIC-FM (August 3). Because of the revokation, Cre-Comm’s application for licence renewal (expiring August 31, 2012) was withdrawn and the file was closed. In light of the elimination of the campus instructional category in Campus and Community radio policy, Broadcasting Regulatory Policy CRTC 2010-499, 22 July 2010, the licensee proposed to operate the undertaking as campus station.
