On September 3, Golden West Broadcasting Ltd. was given approval to operate a new FM station at Portage la Prairie. It would broadcast on frequency 96.5 MHz with an effective radiated power of 24,000 watts. Golden West owned CFRY-AM and its transmitter CFRY-1-FM Portage la Prairie. All of the programming aired in each broadcast week would be local and station-produced. The station would be primarily music-driven and would offer an eclectic music format. The antenna for the new station would be co-located with CFRY-1-FM.
2004
CJPG-FM “Mix 96.5 FM” began testing in April and officially signed on the air at 7:15 a.m., May 4. The format was a mix of music from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. Studios and offices were at 350 River Road in Portage la Prairie.
2010
On November 24, the CRTC renewed CJPG’s licence to August 31, 2014. This short-term renewal would enable the Commission to review the licensee’s compliance with the Radio Regulations, 1986 and its conditions of licence at an earlier date.
