2012

On March 30, the CRTC approved the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation for a broadcasting licence to operate an English-language FM radio station in Kamloops. The Commission also approved, subject to an amendment, the application by the CBC to amend the licence for CBTK-FM Kelowna in order to delete various transmitters from that licence. Finally, the Commission approved the application by the CBC to add the above-noted transmitters of CBTK-FM to the broadcasting licence for the new FM radio station in Kamloops. The new Kamloops station would replace the CBC’s existing transmitter CBYK-FM, using its existing technical parameters…94.1 MHz (channel 231) with an effective radiated power of 4,750 watts (non-directional antenna with an effective height of antenna above average terrain of 124 metres). The CBC indicated that the new station would provide, during each broadcast week, a minimum of 12 hours and 30 minutes of local programming originating in Kamloops, and that this programming would consist of a mix of local, national and international news, up-to-date weather forecasts and road conditions, sports coverage, interviews and short documentaries. It also indicated that the new station would continue to broadcast programming received from its national Radio One network. The following transmitters would be deleted from the licence of CBTK-FM Kelowna and added to the licence of the new Kamloops station: CBKM Blue River, CBKN Shalalth, CBKS Cache Creek, CBKZ Clearwater, CBRL Williams Lake, CBRN-FM Northbend, CBRZ Bralorne, CBTF-FM Falkland, CBTG Gold Bridge, CBTO-FM Revelstoke, CBTY-FM Lytton, CBUH-FM Chase, CBUL Lillooet, CBUP Merritt, CBUS-FM 100 Mile House, CBUU Clinton, CBWA Ashcroft, CBXA Mica Dam, CBYE-FM Logan Lake, CBYO-FM Barriere, CBYU-FM Alexis Creek, and CBYZ-FM Vavenby. The technical parameters of these transmitters would remain unchanged. The licence for the new Kamloops transmitter would expire March 1, 2013.

CBYK-FM 94.1 launched October 9 with CBC Radio One service. It had 22 rebroadcast transmitters – all transmitters had previously simulcast the programming of CBTK-FM Kelowna. CBYK-FM produced its own local morning show, Daybreak Kamloops, hosted by Shelley Joyce (as of October 9). Joyce had been part of the CBC Kelowna team for the last six years.

On May 28, the CRTC renewed the licence of CBYK-FM Kamloops and its transmitters CBRN-FM North Bend, CBTF-FM Falkland, CBTO-FM Revelstoke, CBTY-FM Lytton, CBUH-FM Chase, CBUL-FM Lillooet, CBUS-FM Prespatou, CBYE-FM Logan Lake, CBYO-FM Barriere, CBYU-FM Alexis Creek, CBYZ-FM Vavenby, CBKM Blue River, CBKN Shalalth, CBKS Cache Creek, CBKZ Clearwater, CBRL Williams Lake, CBRZ Bralorne, CBTG Gold Bridge, CBUL Lillooet, CBUP Merritt, CBUU Clinton, CBWA Ashcroft and CBXA Mica Dam, for a five year term, to August 31, 2018.

On December 11, the CRTC approved the CBC’s application to amend the licence for CBYK-FM Kamloops in order to operate a new FM transmitter in Williams Lake to replace the existing AM transmitter CBRL. The new transmitter would operate at 92.1 MHz with an average ERP of 275 watts (non-directional antenna).

On the same date, the Commission approved the CBC’s application to amend the licences for CBYK-FM Kamloops and CBTK-FM Kelowna in order to assign the transmitter CBTO-FM Revelstoke to CBTK-FM Kelowna and to delete it from the broadcasting licence for CBYK-FM Kamloops.

In July, CBRL 860 moved to FM as CBYK-FM-1 92.1.

2017

On June 23, the CRTC approved the CBC’s application to operate an FM transmitter in Clinton to replace CBUU-AM. The new transmitter would operate at 98.9 MHz (channel 255LP) with an ERP of 50 watts and an EHAAT of -69.2 metres.

CBRL-AM Williams Lake was shut down after moving to FM.

2018

On May 4, the CRTC approved the CBC’s application to permit CBYK-FM to operate a transmitter at Cache Creek to replace the low-power AM transmitters CBKS Cache Creek and CBWA Ashcroft. The new transmitter would operate at 93.5 MHz with an average ERP of 143 watts (maximum ERP of 1,127 watts with an EHAAT of -59.1 metres).

On July 25, the CRTC approved the CBC’s application to change the authorized contours of CBTF-FM Falkland, by changing the class from B to B1, replacing the existing directional antenna with a new non-directional antenna, increasing the maximum ERP from 217 to 272 watts (average from 64 to 272 watts), and increasing the antenna height.

A new Radio One FM transmitter went on the air in November to serve Cache Creek and Ashcroft. It replaced two AM transmitters – one in each community.
